The Carmel Hill Fund Education Program is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster the love of reading in children by providing educators with the means to improve their students' reading ability. Carmel Hill believes that reading is not only an educational skill, but also a tool that children can use to enhance their lives beyond their circumstances. We believe that reading is critical in enabling children to express ideas, share experiences, and formulate a point of view.

Carmel Hill achieves its mission by forming partnerships with schools. Carmel Hill's principal focus is its provision of the Accelerated Reader program to its partner schools. During the 2007-2008 school year, over 30,000 students are participating in Accelerated Reader through Carmel Hill's partnerships. The Carmel Hill Fund Education Program has three large projects across the nation:

New York City       Monroe, Louisiana
Denver, Colorado

In addition to funding Accelerated Reader, Carmel Hill supplies its schools with books and computers so that children can take quizzes easily and efficiently.

The Carmel Hill Fund Education Program hopes to strengthen the impact of Accelerated Reader in its sites by funding the following extended programs:

• Expansion of the Carmel Hill Accelerated Reader internship program.

• Continued support for Carmel Hill's gifted and talented students by sponsoring their participation in the Summer Institute for the Gifted.

• Financial support of two other special projects with a larger national and global focus.
